About me

Olá! I’m Carlos Da Pilar, a Portuguese ceramic artisan with more than 40 years of dedication to the art of clay. My business is proudly registered in Alcochete, while my workshop is located in nearby Montijo, where every piece comes to life by hand.

My inspiration is rooted in the world around me: nature, flowers, marine life, and the cultural icons of Portugal. Using locally sourced faience clay, I create décor pieces that reflect our heritage, as well as functional ceramics like sardine-shaped cutlery holders that bring a playful touch of Portugal into everyday living.

Every step of the process is crafted with intention:
I design and hand-make the molds, shape and refine each piece one by one, and carefully paint every detail by hand. Nothing is mass-produced: just skill, patience, and tradition passed from generation to generation.

Today, this work has grown into a family-run workhouse, where I share my knowledge and passion with my team of artisans and my sons. Together, we ensure that the craft I’ve honed over four decades continues to evolve, without losing the soul and meaning behind it.

As I always say:

“By shaping the earth, we also shape a tradition - honoring the past as we create the future.”

Obrigado for supporting our craft and the beauty of handmade Portuguese ceramics.

We only work with locally sourced faience clay!

Our ceramics are made using locally sourced clay from Caldas da Rainha, a region celebrated for its faience tradition. The clay fires to a bright white, providing a beautiful canvas for our hand-painted designs. Strong, refined, and rooted in local craftsmanship: it’s the foundation of everything we create.

F.A.Q

Are our pieces handmade?

Yes! Every item begins with a unique design carefully crafted by hand. From that original piece, we create handmade molds that allow us to shape each ceramic form. After shaping, every piece is individually refined, dried, and hand-painted with meticulous attention to detail. Once fired in our kilns and cooled, our logistics team carefully packages each product in-house so it’s ready to be shipped safely to our clients.

Are our items suitable for outdoor use?

Both yes and no! Our glazed ceramics are well-suited for outdoor environments and will not lose their color in the sun. However, we strongly recommend bringing them indoors during winter or whenever temperatures drop below 0°C, as extreme cold may cause the glaze to crack.

You're not a professional, can you still purchase our ceramic art?

At the moment, our team is focused on fulfilling larger professional orders, so we aren’t able to handle small individual purchases directly. However, we may already partner with a reseller near you! For more information, feel free to contact us via social media or by email at alcobarro@gmail.com, we’ll be happy to help!

We’re also working on launching an online shop for the general public, so everyone will soon be able to enjoy our ceramics directly. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram and check back regularly for updates!

As a professional, can you place an order without using our online store?

Absolutely! You can contact us directly by phone or message, and we’ll be happy to assist you with a direct invoice and personalized support.

Can you personalize or customize our ceramic items?

At the moment, we’re unable to create fully custom ceramic pieces due to our current production schedule. However, we can offer new color options on our existing designs. We’re also exploring ways to expand personalization in the future, so feel free to check back for updates!

Is there a minimum order?

Yes, the minimum for shipping is €300.
